Salesian Pro-Life Youth Rally True Facts about Abortion By Fr. Steve Ryan, SDB

1 out of every 66 deaths in the WORLD is an abortion.

Abortion is the leading cause of death in the world.

We have lost more Americans through abortions (64 times more) than we did in all of our wars (12 wars) combined.

The D-Day invasion of France (WWII) was the bloodiest battle in history. There were 53,714 allied soldiers killed in the "Battle of Normandy." Yet, our world kills more people than that in just 9 hours through abortions.

America lost 589 soldiers in its first year of fighting in the Iraq War. The world, however, kills more people than that in just 6 minutes through abortions.

Each year, 20 million abortions take place in unsafe conditions and as a consequence, an estimated 80,000 women die.

Did you know that the first female physician in the United States opposed abortion, calling it a gross perversion and destruction of motherhood? Elizabeth Blackwell ( ) fought fervently against abortion and for the rights and education of women.

Worldwide # of abortions per year: Approximately 42 Million.

Worldwide # of abortions per day: Approximately 115,000.

83% of all abortions are obtained in developing countries 17% occur in developed countries.

In United States- Number of abortions per year: 1.37 Million.

In United States-Number of abortions per day: Approximately 3,700.

52% of women obtaining abortions in the U.S. are younger than 25.

Women aged obtain 32% of all abortions.

Teenagers obtain 20% and girls under 15 account for 1.2%.

64.4% of all abortions are performed on never-married women.

Married women account for 18.4% of all abortions.

Catholic women account for 31.3% of US Abortions.

Women with family incomes between $30,000 and $59,999 obtain 38.0% of Abortions.

1% of all abortions occur because of rape or incest.

6% of abortions occur because of potential health problems regarding either the mother or child.

93% of all abortions occur for social reasons (i.e. the child is unwanted or inconvenient).

47% of all abortions are performed on women who have had at least one previous abortion.

48% of all abortion facilities provide services after the 12th week of pregnancy.

About 14% of all abortions in the United States are paid for with public funds.

When a woman is given RU-486 (also called Mifepristone), it kills her baby by interfering with progesterone, the hormone which keeps the baby implanted in the wall of the mothers uterus. Two days later, the woman returns to the clinic to receive a prostaglandin drug which induces labor and expels the dead embryo.

1/4 of all pregnancies end in abortion.

Most Americans gravely underestimate the amount of abortions performed in the United States each year.

39% of girls who are minors are acquiring abortions without parental consent.

There was no precedent for the 9 Supreme Court Judges who decided in the Roe vs. Wade Decision that to deny women unrestrained access to abortion is unconstitutional.

Roe vs. Wade was decided on Jan. 22, 1973.

Abortion is legal in the United States in any and all of the 9 months that a woman is pregnant.

According to the U.S. Supreme Court - pre-born children are unprotected by State laws because they have no constitutional rights since they are not "legal" persons.

According to the US Supreme Court –Unborn babies are not persons under section one of the 14th amendment.

Planned Parenthood is the biggest provider of abortion in the USA.

Project Rachael is a Catholic Program that helps women who've had abortion deal with the scars of their choice.

Men have no constitutional rights to prohibit the mother of their developing child to kill it through abortion.

Planned Parenthood pulls in $810 million a year from their abortion and contraception business!

32% of the monies Planned Parenthood has taken in over the last 20 years has come from government grants and contracts i.e. your tax money.

1 out of every 4 deaths in America is an American Abortion.
