The following presentation provides a general overview about the IEEE Foundation. This information will assist potential donors and IEEE Organizational Unit (OU) board committee members in making informed decisions regarding how to establish a Fund within the IEEE Foundation.

2 IEEE Foundation Mission Cultivate relationships and resources to advance IEEE's core purpose “to foster technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity”

3 l Develop relationships with donors and potential corporate partners to identify their interests l Match innovative activities of IEEE Organizational Units (OU’s) with donors and corporate partners l Foster relationships with the leadership of sections and societies to develop activities: l that respond to the interests of members l that resonate with donor and corporate interests IEEE Foundation Cultivates Relationships

4 IEEE Foundation Established by IEEE in 1973 as a 501(c)(3) Public Charity Cultivate philanthropic giving and administer donations Assure compliance with the intent of the donor and the requirements of the IRS Award project grants Administer restricted funds on behalf of IEEE Societies, Sections and other IEEE Organizational Units (OU’s)

5 Peer Recognition l IEEE Medals, Technical Field Awards & Prizes l IEEE OU Awards l Develop New Awards IEEE celebrates and recognizes scientific and engineering excellence through the presentation of peer reviewed awards.

Serve as Fund Administrator Donors and IEEE OU’s can request that the IEEE Foundation establish a fund: l Fund can be for a specific activity (travel grant/award/scholarship) or general in scope l Fund is used to accept and manage contributions given to support philanthropic activity l Fund must have minimum balance of US$20,000

Serve as Fund Administrator Benefits Include: l Separately managed fund l Professional staff to assist with initial fundraising efforts and promotion of the fund l Ongoing donor reporting and stewardship l Investment management l Annual fund balance report l Awareness-building regarding benefits of fund

Assist with Fundraising Efforts IEEE Development Office will: l Provide consultation on fundraising efforts l Assist with solicitation materials including: online giving, matching gifts, tribute giving, and direct mail solicitation l Assist with cultivation of major donors ($10k and up) to discuss giving opportunities l Negotiate gifts to ‘seed’ the Fund and arrange gift agreements for major gifts l Acknowledge gifts and steward donors

How to Establish a Fund by a Donor Contact the IEEE Development Office, Major Gifts Officer at or send an to l Share a general explanation of the purpose for establishing a new Fund l Describe what the Fund will support l Identify source of funding We will gladly hold confidential discussions with you to answer all of your questions.

How to Establish a Fund by an IEEE OU Unit prepares and submits an agenda item to the IEEE Foundation to request a new fund be established (call or for a template) Item must include: - Name of Fund and Unit -Program to be supported -Source of funding and type of fund -Committee that will administer the program -Status of program establishment -Agreement that a reasonable investment and administrative fees will be charge to the fund

If IEEE OU Provides Funding Per IEEE Financial Operations Manual, Units must obtain approval to donate funds l Donations less than $5,000 must be approved by the appropriate Vice President l Donations of $5,000 and more must be approved by the IEEE Executive Committee l Templates are available for the agenda item and financial implication statement that must be prepared and submitted to IEEE
