Classifying Organisms
 All living things are called organisms.  Biodiversity is the short form of Biological Diversity.  Biodiversity refers to the wide variety of organisms.
Learning outcomes By the end of today you will:  Bronze: List (L3)  Silver: Describe (L4)  Gold: Explain (L5) Invertebrates.

Scientists classify animals and nonliving things into groups according to their features or characteristics in order to understand how animals compare.
Characteristics of Vertebrates. Group 1: FISH Facts: – Fish are the largest class of vertebrates – There are three classes of fish: Jawless- boneless.
Vertebrates - C - Notes EQ: What do most vertebrates have in common? Vertebrates – Physical Characteristics They have backbones, an internal skeleton (endoskeleton),
Biodiversity:. Success Criteria: 1.I can state what is meant by the term classification. 2.I can describe the difference between invertebrates and vertebrates.
Classify: to sort into groups. Students will classify organisms into groups and relate how they determined the groups with how and why scientists use.

CHAPTER 3: BIODIVERSITY BIODIVERSITY – the differences that exist between the same species of living things. CLASSIFICATION – the method of classification organisms based on their physical similarities and differences. HABITAT – a natural place where plants and animals live.
