UK / Europe Uni Tour 2014

A 7-day tour, in the last week of June / school summer term, of a series of very different universities (types / sizes / courses) stretching from Germany to central England, all in one week. Flight there (and / or back) with flexibility. Year 10s miss school, year 12s a fallback uni prep week, year 11s post-exam period. Only once every 2-3 years so now or never!

Aims Enable DBS students to see a number of UK universities (like most UK school students would get to) Show you the wide variety of different uni types (regardless which country you want!) Lead you to consider non-UK options Enable you to directly ask questions to professors, rather than through HoC at DBS

Countries itinerary Germany and / or Belgium (if possible) Holland UK (3-6 unis; non-business courses) … but relevant to all national systems 1- or 2-way. Rhine valley to mid/north England. At the end you can disperse to UK destinations, or be returned to LHR for whatever flight you need.

Possible destinations (tbc) Heidelberg / Cologne Maastricht Utrecht / Amsterdam / Ghent / Antwerp Canterbury (campus) UCL / Imperial / Central (various London) Oxford (collegiate) Birmingham (redbrick urban)

Daily schedule Breakfast, morning visit to nearby uni (2-3 hrs) Lunch and some sightseeing / shopping if suitable Travel direct to next destination Dinner, brief reflective meeting Hostel / hotel each night near to next uni

Costs Unknown at present – 3 tour companies are competing to return us a detailed cost / itinerary Probably the ballpark of foreign WWW trips Costs include flight, accommodation, transport, main meals (but you can bring extra if you like)

Flexibility Some 11s might have exams and come late or leave early on a different flight Others may have tickets pre-booked In both cases we can accommodate individual variations. You will still pay an equal organisational cost share (minus flights, accom) and you must get to us – we won’t collect you.
