Embracing E-Learning

The recommendation for an organization to embrace e-learning or not can be summed up with three words, “just do it”.

This may have been how many of you learned how to swim, older siblings threw you into the deep water and gave you advice on swimming.

Informal e-learning is similar to this, turn the computer on and start doing something, if you get confused, click the help button.

Self-paced e-learning can be described as doing it your way. At first you may use or go shopping. After that you can move on to video conferencing and other activities at a pace that is comfortable to you.

Leader-led e-learning is doing it someone else’s way and with their timetable of accomplishing tasks following an organized plan.

Performance support tools within the software will list the steps needed for various applications.

These four types of e-learning describe the ways you can learn how to effectively learn using a computer and its various applications.

1.How did you learn to teach? First you may have attended class, learned the rules for teaching, and started teaching.

2. Then mixed, matched, abandoned, and came up with new rules until you developed your own teaching style and methods of teaching.

3. Developing the techniques of using the computer and e-learning is much the same and you and your organization will develop your own way of using e-learning.

4. Once you have embraced e-learning you may look at the first hard rules of teaching you learned as similar to the conventional classroom, nice ideas that are not the best for today’s classroom.

Today’s classroom needs multiple sources of up-to-date information with the learner having considerable control of how and by what means they arrive at the mastery of the course objectives.

E-learning may cause you to mix, match, abandon, and change your teaching style to meet the challenges of what can be done with e-learning.
