1 Teaching with Smart Response Systems
Diana Dawson EIPT 5513

2 Analysis Needs - Due to the district’s mandated weekly mini assessments, teachers are feeling overwhelmed by the added extra work, and additional weekly grading. In response, there is a need for a response interactive system that will provide fast assessment results to gain immediate feedback on student learning. This will aid educators by removing time spent on grading these assessments, and using the immediate data to appropriately plan upcoming lessons.

3 Analysis Task Analysis – This need will be addressed by providing educators with a class set of SMART Response Interactive Response Systems. Educators will receive training on how to use this system with their students for their weekly mini-assessments. Educators will be taught how to make an assessment, upload assessments, set up a class and enter student information, sync clickers to either a student ID number or clicker number, administer assessment, and interpret assessment data. In order for educators to feel comfortable to include this into their instruction, it is recommended they attend the Smart Response training, and use the handout and video as a guide and reference.

4 Analysis/Design Concept or Procedure:
Prerequisite knowledge of Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel would be highly recommended for a successful training. Programs that must be installed on computer: SmartNotebook 10 Software by SMART Technologies Smart Response Software by SMART Technologies Materials: Laptop/Desktop that has required programs installed Class Set of SMART Response PE Clickers and l This training will last about 1 hour to an hour and half depending on the level of skill, and prior knowledge the learner has on this topic. A handout will be given out at the beginning of the training in order for the learner to be able to follow along, take notes, and use as future reference. Evaluation of the effectiveness of the training will be done in the form of survey. The survey will be sent out a month after the training to give teachers ample time to use the clickers in their classroom.

5 Objectives After a lecture on SMART Response Clickers, teachers will be able to set up, edit, and manage their class using Smart Response Tools with minimal to no aid. After a lecture on SMART Response Clickers, teachers will be able to set up receiver, understand clicker controls, and sync clickers to a student name with minimal to no aid. After a lecture on SMART Response Clickers, teachers will be able to create an assessment within three weeks using SMART Notebook Software with at least 5 different styles of questions. After a lecture on SMART Response Clickers, teachers will be able to successfully administer a content based assessment within four weeks using Smart Response Clickers. A survey will be sent out after a month in order to check for understanding. Teachers wlll use them within four weeks, content based assessment. Month send out survey. Tally chart on how many times they need help. “ It’s not going to be meaningful for you.”

6 Development Begin Smartboard Response Clicker Training using Powerpoint. Take a practice demo test with teachers at the beginning of the training. Make a tally chart on how many times each person needs help in order to identify who you will need to offer additional help.

7 Implementation Experiment/Introduce SmartResponse Clickers
Pass out clickers to every attendee Plug in USB receiver Practice Exam as Student Use clicker demo, to explain the function/buttons of the clickers Show how to sync their clicker to their “training name” Take a practice clicker test with staff Explain teacher functions that can be done during/after the test Switch implementation to design. Design is what you are going to do for how long. In materials, why should I? why do you need this. (in handout) and analysis

8 Implementation Setting Up a Class Making an Assessment
Pass out handout Student data entered in Microsoft Excel and saved Create a class in Smart Response software and upload student data file Making an Assessment Describe the process of making an assessment with Smart Notebook Software Make up a question using a different question type available on notebook Practice administering the test that was made, and show how to end test

9 Implementation Ending Session Question and Answer
Show how to end session and simultaneously turn off all clickers Show how to review results Question and Answer

10 Evaluation Evaluation during the training:
Make a tally chart on how many times each person needs help in order to identify who you will need to offer additional help. Have learners write feedback on the handouts in order to improve their quality. Post Evaluation: Evaluation of the effectiveness of the training will be done in the form of survey. The survey will be sent out a month after the training to give teachers ample time to use the clickers in their classroom. Look in objectives for evaluation ideas. Get feedback on handouts, ask to write any problems you see to make it better
