Presentation transcript:

POWERPOINT May 2004 To move the text box - move the mouse over the border of the text box, and once the 4-way arrow appear – click and drag the box to wherever you want it Remember… 2-way arrow for changing size and the 4-way arrow for changing position – and don’t forget to change the date, otherwise you are telling your audience it’s an old presentation!

To insert a text box insert - text box - click then start typing the text box will adjust to the amount of text - automatically If you try to move the text box before you have added text - the box will disappear And if the text box does disappear… just insert another text box and try again

You can put text boxes anywhere

And You can Have Different Formatting For the text in each individual text box Also

To insert a new slideTo insert a new slide go to – insert – new slide ! go to – insert – new slide !

But if you want to delete this slide… Go back to the new slide and click edit - then click delete slide You can delete any slide that you are currently working on by using the same technique – that is – click edit then click delete slide

And if you want the last slide to come back …use the undo button

Slide Number To help keep track of our slides, it is probably a good idea to give each slide a number - in the bottom right hand corner Go to - View - header & footer - slide number - don’t show on title slide - apply to all And you can also add a message at the bottom of each slide – and make it a different message for each slide!

To change the background colour of one slide Format / background Background - fill choose your colour - if you are happy with the limited selection Choose More colours - if you are not happy with the limited selection don’t forget to click ‘OK’ And then click Apply – so that it only applies to this slide You may also now want to change the colour of your text

animation You must first click on a text box you want to animate Then… Click on slide show – then… click on custom animation if you want to see it again - just click on the play button at the bottom of this column Then choose the animation you want by first clicking on the add effect button WOW - what a selection!

We can animate text boxes separately but remember – the blinking cursor must be in the text box you want to animate You can also choose the order of animation by clicking on the effect, then move your mouse to the bottom of the column to click on either the up arrow or down arrow which are either side of the word – Re-Order

Important points about animation You get to choose: The type of animation How it starts (with or without a click – or carrying on from the previous) How it ends And whether it fades away Just make sure that the heading is your first animation – it looks a bit silly otherwise

Turning off the animation Make sure the blinking cursor is in the text box where you want to turn off the animation Click on the ‘Remove’ button which is next to the ‘Add Effect’ button – on the right hand side of this screen. Clicking on the ‘Remove’ button will remove all effects on that particular text box The above text box has two animations – which is a feature of Windows XP – so be careful that you don’t put multiple effects on the one text box – unless you are doing it deliberately

This is a blank page They are very useful Ask Mark why?

Insert – picture – clipart then click on the Clip Organizer (which is near the bottom right hand And you can have as much clipart as you want Inserting clipart

First we insert the clip art in the normal fashion if we want the animation to effect the clip art - then we have to make sure the clip art is selected - which will happen automatically when we first insert the clip-art all other steps for animating the clip art are the same they are for animating the text We can animate clip art too

We can also add pictures With or without animation insert - picture - from file in this case - the file PowerPoint folder on the c drive.

We can also rotate words - or more accurately - we can rotate the text box the words are in. Look for the small green circle at the top of this box.. When you move the mouse over the green circle, the mouse turns into a circular arrow and this the time click and drag the text box onto an angle. And the same goes for pictures…. The angle of the dangle

We can have more than one picture on a page and we can even choose which ones are on top and which ones are underneath Right click on the photo - then select Order and then you have a choice on whether you bring the picture to the front, or pushing it to the back - or something in between. More than one picture - and overlapping

Where you can have the picture and text on the same slide following each other without you having to click… click on slide show custom animation Add effect – then… Start – after previous Then choose the speed Animation timing

Slide Transition Choosing how go from one slide to the next Click on Slide Show – then Click on Slide Transition Select the transition you want then choose the speed Remember to tick - ‘on mouse click’ if we want this for just one slide - click apply if we want the same slide transition for every slide in our presentation - then click apply all Small tip - you may want to select - random transition - which will give you a different way of changing each time

And now its time to change the background colour scheme for the whole slide program Format / background Background fill choose your colour - if you are happy with the limited selection Choose More colours - if you are not happy with the limited selection The preview button is very handy And when you are happy with your choice - click Apply All Once you have colour scheme – you may now need to change the colour of some or all of your text

Adding a picture or logo to every slide Views – master – slide master Insert – picture – from file Then resize picture and move to an appropriate place in the slide (usually a top or bottom corner) Go back to views – normal and lastly…a different way to look at your presentation and change the order of your slides Click on View - slide sorter

Printing Click on file then click print See the box on the right for settings. These settings will give you the same output as the notes you have today.

And now we get to look at our slide show... Slide show - view show If you want to end the show before you have looked at all the slides - right click the mouse and then click on end show Also note some of the other useful selections you have when you right click the mouse during the actual presentation.

thanks for listening and I hope you enjoyed the presentation The End
