1 Using the INSERT TAB in MS Word 2007
A hands on practice.

2 INSERT TAB Within the INSERT ribbon there are several command tabs… :
PAGES TABLES ILLUSTRATIONS LINKS HEADER AND FOOTER TEXT SYMBOLS

3 The pages command allows you to insert cover pages for projects and blank pages. You can also do a page break. Let’s try: Click on the cover page option. A window pops up and gives you many options to pick from. Select “CONSERVATIVE” In the “TYPE TITLE HERE”, type “Word 2007” For the subtitle type “practice” In the name area, type your name Delete the “abstract” at the bottom of the page Click off the boxes when you are done… use the scroll bar to scroll down to page 2 PAGES COMMAND TAB

4 PAGES COMMAND TAB - 2 Now we will insert a blank page.
Click on the option for blank page. You will now have another page added to your document. Look in the bottom left corner of the WORD window and it will tell you how many pages are in your document. Make sure you are now clicked on PAGE 2 PAGES COMMAND TAB - 2

5 This command allows us to create a table for a word document.
Let’s try: Click enter 2 times. Click on the table. In the pop-up window, notice you can select the size of the table you need. For this activity we are going to select a 2 column and 4 row. Notice that you now have a grid on your workspace There is a contextual tab for the tab… it has a yellow highlighted tab You are also able to insert and delete rows as well. You can also adjust the height and width of the cells. TabLE coMMAND tab

Illustration commands are where we do all the visual additions to your document. Pictures Clipart Shapes Smart Art Chart Let’s try: click below the table you created. Illustrations command tab

Pictures: Click the picture option In the window that pops up, go to your H drive Double click on a picture that we downloaded before. The picture will now be in the cell on the table. Also note the table size adjusted, this is normal. When you are clicked on the picture, notice the contextual tab options that are at the top. It is highlighted PINK. If you are clicked on the image, you will have squares and circles around the image. You can resize the image by clicking on these and dragging the mouse in or out. Illustrations command tab - 2

Let’s take a look at the picture contextual tab: You have the option to: Adjust the brightness/contrast / color Change the picture Add effects to the picture- take your mouse and scroll over the picture styles options, note the change it has on the image. Select the DROP SHADOW RECTANGLE. You can also add other effects by clicking PICTURE SHAPE, select a fun shape for your picture. PICTURE BORDER allows us to put a border on the image. Click on it and select a complimentary color. PICTURE EFFECTS gives us many options to add “pizzazz” to the image. Scroll down to GLOW and select one. within the Illustrations command tab - 3

Now to ARRANGE the image. You must be clicked on the image to see the contextual tab to arrange. This option lets you move the image and change the settings. You can position, wrap text, rotate. We will use “wrap text” for moving images on your document. Let’s try: Click on “WRAP TEXT,” select SQUARE. This option gives you the most freedom when moving images around. Move the image under the table and in the middle. After you click on SQUARE, you can then move your image to anywhere on the page. Within the Illustrations command tab - 4

CLIP ART- Let’s try- When you click on CLIP ART a window will pop-up on the right side. Type “camping” in the search box. In the “RESULTS SHOULD BE” option, uncheck music and sound. Click Go The clips will show up in the box below. Double click the one you want and it will go onto your page where your cursor is. Then while holding the mouse down on the image, drag it into the first cell on the table. Clipart has the same edit options as an image. Within the Illustrations command tab - 5

Image size This is where the image can be cropped or sized to specific dimensions. Let’s try: Make sure you are clicked on your picture. Click the crop tool… note the change in the cursor. Go to the edge of the image and click on it.. To remove parts of the image, drag the mouse inward on the image. Within the Illustrations Command TAb

12 In this section, you will use the hyperlink command .
A hyperlink takes us from one place to another, usually on a website. In Word, we can create links to websites . Let’s try: Click in a cell on your table. Type “The Weather Channel” Now take your mouse and highlight those words. Click the Hyperlink command. In the pop-up window, type in the address box at the bottom of the window. Click OK. The window will close. The highlighted text should now be blue with a line underneath. If you click on this, it should take you to the Weather Channel website if you did everything correct. 13 Header and footer command tab
The header/footer tab allows us to place information at the top or bottom of our page. We can also do page numbering as well. Let’s try… Click on Header In the pop-up window, select the first option, BLANK. Notice the tools at the top changed. These tools are only for doing header/footers Type in your last name where it says type text Take your cursor and place it in front of your name and tab so that your name goes to the right side of the page. Click on the red X in the command window to close out of the header/footer command Header and footer command tab

14 There are many options on this tab… In our class we will use 2, the TEXT BOX and WORD ART
Let’s try: Click on the TEXT BOX, notice the pop-up window. Select “simple text box” Now you have a text box on your document. To move the text box, click on the edge- get the 4 way arrow and drag it to the right side of your page. Type the following in the text box: “ To get a text box, click on the INSERT tab. Select the simple text box.” Click off of the text box. Text command tab

Click on the WORD ART, notice the pop-up window. Select a style of word art that you want. Type “Word 2007” in the box. Click Ok. To move the word art, click on the edge of box. When you have the 4 way arrow, drag to where you want it. To resize, click on the squares on the edge and drag to required size Notice that when you are clicked on the WORD ART box, there is a contextual tool bar at the top of your window. This is where you do editing. You can change the word art style Colors – select shape color and pick a different color Effects- select a drop shadow from the shadow tab Arrangement TEXT COMMAND TAB - 2

16 Use these to insert a equation or symbol into your document…
Let’s try: Click on the EQUATION arrow In the pop-up, notice the various math equations that are shown. Click on “the area of a circle” notice the change at the top of your window. Click on any white area and your tabs will come back…. Your math teachers are likely to use this feature. Click on the SYMBOL arrow In the pop-up, see the options for selecting specific “symbols.” If you click the down arrow, you will get another pop-up that has many more options…. Use the scroll bar and click on the TM symbol Click insert and close the window. Symbols command tab
