What does this mean for outgoing exchange? Your academic performance abroad matters just as much as it would if you remained at Surrey. You must achieve the equivalent of 60 Surrey credits for each semester that you study abroad at the Partner University in order to successfully progress to level three/P if you programme. The exact number of modules and/or credit you need to achieve is outlined in the academic guidance sheets issued to all outgoing students. Also available on the exchange website.

 Management students- marks are not converted. You are asked to pass the required number of modules in accordance with the Partner University’s academic regulations.  Law students – marks are not converted. You are asked to pass the required number of modules in accordance with the Partner University’s regulations. Exchange forms part of level P.  Economics – marks are not converted if studying abroad for one semester. If studying abroad for a full year marks are converted. How your studies are recognised….

What happens if you do not pass… If you fail to pass a module we will look to organise a re-sit at the Partner University. This may mean staying in the host country for longer than expected, or travelling back to the host country. If a re-sit is not offered abroad we will look to organise a re-sit at Surrey. This may mean enrolling on an additional module in semester two. If a suitable module is not running in semester two you may be enrolled on a semester one module and expected to self-learn with the aid of regular meetings with the module convenor. In these cases examination for the re-sit usually takes place in August. We can organise re-sits up to and including failure of 45credits. Please bear in mind that failure of 30 credits or more will place significant pressure on you when you return. Failure of >45credits will result in automatic course suspension. Failure to pass a module following a re-sit will result in course termination, in accordance with the University’s academic regulations.

Tips for studying abroad… Read through the academic guidance document carefully Look at the Partner University’s module catalogue before you leave Make sure we have an up to date copy of your learning agreement Set aside extra time for the Business Finance module – experience tells us that Surrey students find this area of study more challenging abroad Get into a good routine early on. Study THEN go and have fun! Any problems let us know, we can’t help you if you don’t keep us in the loop!

Ms Deborah Edwards Office Hours: 09:00 – 17:00 Monday – Friday 13MS01 Appointments: 2pm – 4pm Phone: Main point of contact in the Faculty…
