4 What is the In-sessional English Skills ( IES) programme?
free English language service for international students all levels from Foundation to Postgraduate 2 hours per week in each term self enrolment What is it? The English Language Development Programme is a free service for students whose native language is not English and who need help with improving their language skills. It is open to students at all levels from Foundation to Postgraduate. Members of staff are also welcome to attend. Students may attend 2 hours per week in each term. Who teaches on it? Members of staff in the English Language Unit.

5 There are seven modules on the IES programme. Essay writing – ED001
What do we teach? There are seven modules on the IES programme. Essay writing – ED001 Grammar – ED002 Seminar discussion and presentation –ED003 Listening and note-taking – ED004 Academic reading skills – ED007 Pronunciation – ED008 One -to-one essay writing tutorials – EDOO5 There is a full syllabus for the ELDP on the ELU website.

6 Students can earn employability points for attendance.
And credits? The IES doesn’t carry credits. Students can earn employability points for attendance. 2 hours attendance = 5 points maximum 20 points BUT The ELDP is non-credit bearing ( You do not earn credits when you attend) and you are under no pressure from assessments. However, your attendance on the ELDP will be recorded and included on your transcript under extra-curricular studies. ( Not included in your credits or marks). AND

7 Regular attendance is rewarded...
attendance of minimum of 6 classes per term in each module = ‘pass’ on student’s final transcript 80% attendance = ‘letter of excellent attendance’ per module 0 attendance = de-registration (you can’t fail!)
