How to contact us Scottish Mental Health Research Network “Facilitating the development, set up and successful completion of mental health clinical research studies across Scotland.” General Enquiries Kennedy Tower The University of Edinburgh Royal Edinburgh Hospital Edinburgh EH10 5HF Telephone: For further information please visit our website below to:  Download our adoption form  Enquire about our Protocol Development Service  Register your interest in forming a Protocol Development Group Our Protocol Development Groups Would you like to become more involved in mental health research in a specific area? PDGs bring together researchers and clinicians with a shared interest in a specific topic and focus on the production of high quality, fundable research proposals. The network provides methodological and funding support up to £5000 and monitors progress of the research proposals. PDGs are expected to submit at least one application to a major research funder within 18 months of the award. We aim to support four PDGs per year. Please visit the PDG section of our website at or for more information on how to apply or register your area of interest for a future PDG call.

Our Adoption Service Our Aims SMHRN officially launched in November 2009 and is designed to support high quality research in mental health in Scotland. Our main aim is to facilitate the development and set up of large, well-funded research studies in Scotland; as well as ensuring the success of Scottish led clinical trials, epidemiological, genetic and imaging studies. To help accelerate high quality research activity in mental health, a key objective for SMHRN is to provide assistance to the development of new Scottish-led studies and to provide input to study set up, co-ordination, recruitment and closedown. The SMHRN is managed by a co- ordinating centre in Edinburgh with a Scotland-wide Management Group. SMHRN is closely associated with the English and Welsh Mental Health Research Networks and all of the topic specific research networks in Scotland to co-adopt studies where relevant and to pool resources. Would you like assistance with study design, statistics, regulatory issues or study conduct? Our Protocol Development Service (PDS) welcomes applications for support from prospective investigators at an early stage of development. PDS can offer advice and assistance with:- Focussing and refining the study question Development of the protocol Planning practical aspects of study execution Addressing regulatory requirements Power calculation and analysis strategy Identifying funding sources Our Protocol Development Service Are you an investigator of a funded treatment epidemiological, genetic or imaging study in mental health? Would you like help with study set up, recruiting participants or assistance with data collection and follow up? Our adoption service has a study co- ordinator and a network of specialist mental health research nurses and research assistants who can provide support with: Site recruitment Facilitating clinician involvement Patient recruitment Patient involvement Data collection Follow up Data entry and monitoring Troubleshooting
