NICE Evidence Search SC Experience Josh Mallinder, Myron Odingo and Wasarme Muuse Final year Keele University

Reasons for Participating Introducing NICE Evidence Search / NICE to students early on in their academic career could positively impact on their clinical practice. Improve my own competencies and knowledge using NICE Evidence / NICE to further my confidence in making decisions in practice.

Session Structure Two sessions for first year students Half of the first year attended the first session followed by the other half attending the second session. A therapeutic topic was integrated into the sessions which had already been covered in the course.

Session Structure The sessions started with an explanation of what NICE Evidence Search and NICE are. A demonstration of how to access and use NICE Evidence by searching for a desired therapeutic or clinical subject then followed. Some questions were set to allow the students to learn how to access the different sources to locate specific answers. Feedback and a demonstration of our method followed. Summary and answer any questions.

Issues Initially the questions were too complicated and clinically heavy for the students. A more thorough demonstration and walkthrough by ourselves was necessary to explain how to access the answers. By changing the questions in time for the second session we managed to avoid the same issue.

Advice and Top Tips Rehearse the presentation to ensure the slideshow and verbal interaction flows. Aim the questions (if any) at the audience appropriately. Ensure all team members are equally involved and aware of any changes that are made to the presentation. Ensure audience has understood what has been said.

What We Have Achieved Communication and public speaking Team work Presentation skills Organisation skills Time management We have had the opportunity to develop our skills using NICE Evidence Search.
