To explain the options process: How you and your child may decide What choices may be best for your child Who can help you and your child make the decision Timetable of the process The Aims of our Presentation:

The curriculum The Curriculum will consist of compulsory core subjects as well as free choices The subjects your child will study will be mainly GCSEs Some students may be given time in Curriculum Support Certain subjects may be recommended for some students

Core Curriculum – Compulsory Subjects Compulsory GCSE Exam Courses English English Literature Mathematics Science Religious Education Compulsory non-exam courses Personal Social and Health Education Physical Education

Science courses Triple Science – A GCSE in each of Biology, Chemistry and Physics Double Science – A GCSE in each of Core Science and Additional Science BTEC Applied Science – Can achieve the equivalent to 2 x GCSE A*-C During the summer term Rydon and Steyning science teachers liaise to help guide students onto the appropriate course.

For many students we strongly recommend English Baccalaureate subjects (EBacc) Humanities - Geography or History and a Modern Foreign Language - French, German or Spanish If your child is considering a University degree in the future we strongly recommend taking a Humanities based subject and a Modern Foreign Language Mr Blackmore and Mr Swann are points of contact at Rydon if you have any issues concerning the EBacc

January 10 th – Information Evening for parents January 15 th and 17 th – Parents’ Consultation Evenings January 24 th – ‘Choices Form’ given out January 29 th – Open Evening with subject stands at Steyning February 7 th – Deadline for return of ‘Choices Form’ March – Steyning will match your choices to the courses. A course may not run if too few students opt for it May – A letter confirming choices will be sent home WHAT HAPPENS NOW?
