Foreign Language Currently at West-Oak High School, Spanish is the only foreign language offered, even for native Spanish speakers. One credit in Foreign Language is required for graduation. (OR one course in Career And Technology Education—See CATE PowerPoint)

Spanish Spanish I and II are College Prep courses. Spanish III, IV and V are Honors courses. Students must take the courses in order, starting with Spanish I.

Who should take Spanish? People who… are not afraid to try new things! like learning about other parts of the world! have open minds! understand how their first language functions (grammar)! Spanish I College Prep

Spanish I College Prep Spanish I College Prep There is no prerequisite for Spanish I. If you took Intro to Spanish at WOMS, great! Course expectations: Daily listening, reading, writing and speaking activities, IN SPANISH! Exploration of current events in Spanish-speaking countries. Observations of celebrations & practices when appropriate.

Spanish II College Prep Prerequisite: successful completion of Spanish I (*C or better is recommended) Elective credit; NOT required for graduation. Many 4 year colleges require 2 nd year of FL for consideration for acceptance.

Spanish II College Prep Course expectations: Daily reading, listening, writing & speaking assessments are employed, IN SPANISH. Retention of Spanish I material is essential for continuing at a FASTER PACE & HIGHER LEVEL. More advanced grammar & vocabulary is introduced and used in context. Observances of cultural practices and perspectives are continued.

Spanish III Honors Elective credit; NOT required for graduation. Prerequisites: Spanish I and II (85 or above recommended) AND recommendation of Spanish II teacher. Summer reading required. Clemson University and the College of Charleston are two colleges that require 3 years of the same foreign language to be considered for admission directly after high school.

Spanish III Honors, cont. Course expectations: Retention and/or independent review of Spanish I and II vocabulary and grammar Summer reading & activities Daily Spanish speaking, writing and listening assessments Weekly journaling Extended current event research Poetry & literature assignments, including memorization and recitation

Español IV & V Honores If you can’t read this slide, please DO NOT sign up for Spanish IV or V.
