Certification Update Youth Exchange Certification  THANK YOU for all of your hard work – We’re almost there!  30 June 2007: Certification deadline to continue planning exchanges in Provisionally certified districts may complete any exchange planned before 30 June 2007 even if not certified for

Assistance in completing certification Youth Exchange Certification  “Certified pending review” status  Incorporation and liability insurance temporary waivers for districts experiencing obstacles until June 2008.

Common certification misunderstandings Youth Exchange Certification  FALSE: You need to sent official incorporation/insurance forms or copies of volunteer affidavits.  FALSE: There is no flexibility in the requirements.  FALSE: Districts can refuse to meet a requirement without providing an alternative for approval.  FALSE: Certification = Background checks  FALSE: Provisional certification = Certification / meeting minimum requirements

Certification Youth Exchange Certification Certification for Rotary year:  District governor and district chair signature confirmation  Forms for already certified districts will be sent soon; other districts will receive once they are certified  Requirement to update RI if any changes, including changes to policy

Certification beyond Youth Exchange Certification  Post-2008 Re-certification process:  Staggered process – 3-5 year cycle  New procedures:  Collection of student data  Program evaluations

Ensuring Future Success Youth Exchange Certification  With RI:  Keep RI staff updated on progress and any problems  Communicate concerns to RI Youth Exchange committee  Within your area  Benefit from policies and procedures developed by other districts

Ensuring Future Success Youth Exchange Certification  With exchange partners:  Encourage partners to implement policies for protection of the youth you entrust to them  Make sure exchange agreements are clear before student leaves home  Communicate concerns promptly
