Presentation by Priyanka Sawarkar Introduction to eB Presentation by Priyanka Sawarkar

What is eB? eB is Asset Lifecycle Information Management System It is .NET based platform, Foundation technology used by Bentley AssetWise Platform. Enterprise Bridge (eB) sustains and provides complete, accurate and meaningful information that enables efficient decision making at all levels of the enterprise. eB is Asset Lifecycle Information Management System Assets : Assets are what you need to run your business. Plant & Equipment Requirements Documents People & Organizations Projects Lifecycle Design, Construction, Operation, & Maintenance Information Management Timely access to trusted information People Organizations Projects Enterprise can be any Organization or group of people that works on any project. eB used to map and connect organization database together thus it is known as Enterprise Bridge. eB connects multiple resources of information in enterprise. Assets can be anything that is used to run business, such as project, software use by organization, people working in organization, Documents, equipment required by organization etc. eB is Commercial information Management solution, that manages Enterprise information in such away that can be access quickly and stores data securely Objective of eB is to manage requirements, things organization works with and data about them. Equipment Documents Requirements

eB Architecture eB Three Tier Architecture Business Process Data Public API Index Service Storage Service Other eB Services eB Architecture is divided into three tiers. Presentation Tier : This is used for client side user interface. The interface can be tailored to specific customer needs, including adding site-specific help resources. - Desktop GUI : This provides Graphical user interface for Director or SMC user, which is windows application - Web Client : This is for eB web user or clients which is web application and can be access by browser. - Custom Application : This is application which is developed according to business needs . Business Process : Encompasses the central functions performed by eB, such as document management, document retrieval. The search capabilities allow you to find documents, even if you know very little about them. This is the ‘BUSINESS LOGIC’ Media Manager = Takes care of physical files Document Manager = Handles the related index data Other Business Processes = Everything else, e.g. Security. 3) Data Tier : Includes the document database and index, media vaults, and free-text database necessary to provide users with timely access to any document they are authorized to access. Media vault=Physical files Documents = Index information Free Text = Text from the physical files Conf. = Configuration information about application Profiles = Configuration information about users Data stored_procedures Structured Index Unstructured Content Free Text Profiles & Configuration

eB Architecture Flow of eB Three Tier Architecture Presentation Tier i.e. User Interface : Is what the user sees. eB included an interface accessible to anyone familiar with Windows applications. Firewall Director HTTP(S) HTTP(S) Browser Web Server Business Process Tier : In this central functions are performed by eB, such as document management, document retrieval. Storage Services Index The top layer is the Presentation tier, which accommodates Windows applications, such as eB Director and Web application such as eB Web. Through a web server, this layer also provides access via a web browser. The Services layer represents Business Process Tier, contains the Application Servers which host a collection of Services. This is where eB’s Business Logic is enforced. Usually the services in the application layer are hosted on more than one server, for performance and scalability. Typically there will be a separate Index server and a Storage server. There are about a dozen eB Services altogether which support the eB capabilities. A separate file repository holds the files, such as Word files, CAD drawings, PDF files, images, etc. which represents Data Tier. eB’s repositories are stored in the file system for performance and scalability reasons. eB does, however, support external repositories, which means that the file storage can managed by third-party software and in that case, the files can be stored in any manner that the third party software sees fit. For example, SharePoint stores its files inside a SQL Server database, and eB’s integration with SharePoint allows eB to just reference the files inside that database, rather than requiring them to be duplicated in a file system. Data Tier: This includes documents, index, media vaults, and free-text database necessary to provide users with timely access to any document they are authorized to access. Files Repository Metadata

Key Design Aspects eB consists three different Key Design aspects: Document Management : Controls the lifecycle of documents in the organization - How they are created, reviewed and published - Who they are created by - How they are disposed of or retained - Phases of Documentation : creation  review  approval  publication  disposition phases Change and Configuration Management : Managing change and managing the configuration of complex entities. "Three  Pillars" of configuration management are : 1) Items : “What really there is” . It may be any physical or virtual Item. 2) Document and data : “ What we say there is”. This generally contains description of items 3) Requirement : “What must be there”. This should be according to customer requirement. Record Management : keeps important documents for as long as is necessary, and no longer than that. - Build your own records taxonomy - Record types assigned automatically – ensure compliance - Archival, destruction, and hold orders supported Document Management Configuration management Records Management It provides the tools for structuring, managing and controlling the data about the assets and processes of an enterprise. Document Management: Tools, technologies and methods used to capture, manage, store, preserve, and deliver content across an enterprise. This presentation is going to focus on Document Management, but there are additional aspects of eB, which you won’t really see unless these pieces are activated. Configuration Management: Identification and control of the ‘products’, i.e. assets, services and processes satisfying identified and controlled requirements underwritten by identified and controlled data and documents that support your business. This includes their structure or "make-up" and all associated documents and records. Records Management: Is the practice of identifying, classifying, archiving, preserving, and destroying records.

eB Interface eB Web : eB Director : eB Web editor overview eB included an interface accessible to anyone familiar with Windows applications. eB Web : - Task-oriented, tailor to user’s role - No installation, no maintenance - Accessible through browser easily - Include powerful query, view and print capability - Ability to provide data support for business process eB Director : - View and configure the Information Model - Desktop application - Design for data administrator role to configure eB - Installation and Maintenance required eB Web editor overview Overview of eb Web and eB Director: eB Web : It is divided into three frames i.e. Navigation frame, Content frame and Task frame. - Navigation frame : The Documents option has been selected from the Navigate list at the top of the Navigator frame. - Content frame : This is middle frame. Whenever any document is selected from navigation, its details and content are display in Content frame. - Task Frame : When viewing documents in the Content pane, the section area is present in the Task pane. eB Director : It is divided into Navigation frame, Content frame and Search Result. - Content frame : The Content pane allows the user to view and maintain the data associated with any class, template, or object selected in the Navigation pane. - Search Result : This pane displays search results in list format. A user can inspect an object’s details by double-clicking on a record row. The details display in the upper half of the Content pane. eB Director editor overview

Primary Functions managed by eB…. - Capture, classify and store information: This is First step to get information into the system. We cannot manage anything unless we capture, classify and store information. - Organize Information: Contextual Mapping is another way of Configuration. Management organize, relate information is “Contextual Mapping” - Rapid Access: Easy and quick way to find information anytime, anywhere - Change Management : Manage the change process, ensuring information integrity - Communicate Changes : Tracking the status of an object in the system so I can identify if it’s the previous or current version REPORTING - Monitoring: Understand when an object is added, changed, deactivated and what other objects were impacted - Security : Regulate access based on permissions. Provides a comprehensive, three-level data security system, which allows for control on access to the data stored in the system. - Tracks Document Locations : Keeps track of document locations (physical and electronic) in the organization, and manages the distribution of documents. - Integrity and synchronizes : Ensures item integrity and synchronizes data transferred to other computerized systems.

Benefits of eB Governance : Workflows to automate governance policies, Governance reports and Audit Information Compliance : Records Management, Historic Information of Business Objects, Security and Access Controls Tracking of Compliance reporting Integrity and Control : Change Management, revision control Visibility : Single view of all related information Collaboration Management of electronic and paper simultaneously Easy to use working environment. Improve Operational Efficiency, quality, safety, reduces cost and minimize business risks
