Immanuel Kant 1784

W HAT IS E NLIGHTENMENT ? definition- to give intellectual or spiritual light to; instruct; impart knowledge to Kants version- is mans release from his self incurred tutelage (being influenced by others).

Q UESTION ! 1. How does Immanuel Kant answer the question What is Enlightenment? People should make their own decisions with LITTLE influence from others, because [Kant thinks] people sometimes try to make others decisions for them. But the public should enlighten its self is more possible; indeed if only freedom is granted, enlightenment is almost sure to follow. Example: Peer Pressure

I MMANUEL K ANT German Philosopher He greatly influenced Philosophy by his understanding and work in the theory of knowledge, ethics, and aesthetics. He spent his entire life in Konigsberg where he was educated as a teacher and lecturer.

S UMMARY The article is about Immanuel Kants interpretation of Enlightenment, in which he basically says enlightenment is often determined by others influence. What he is trying to get across is to make your own decisions for you and not the benefit of others. You should use enlightenment and freedom to your advantage to build your self-esteem. Be courageous and stand up for yourself.
