Graphing Ordered Pair – gives the location of a coordinate point Coordinate point- a point on a plane Coordinate Plane – a flat surface that extends in all directions infinitely – is used to give locations

Where you always start when you graph a coordinate point COORDINATE PLANE Point of Origin ( 0 , 0 ) Where you always start when you graph a coordinate point Y axis – a line that tells how high or low a coordinate point is. QUADRANT II ( - , + ) QUADRANT I ( + , + ) X axis – a line that gives the location of a coordinate from left to right QUADRANT IV ( + , - ) QUADRANT III ( - , - )

( 3, 2 ) ( -3 , 2 ) ( -3 , -2 ) ( 3 , -2 ) GRAPHING A POINT Start at the point of origin Look at the first value in the ordered pair. This is the X axis location. Move your point from the origin to the given x axis value in the ordered pair. Look at the next value in the ordered pair. This is the Y axis location. From the x axis value, move either up or down as given for the y axis value. ( 3, 2 ) ( -3 , 2 ) ( 3 , -2 ) ( -3 , -2 )
