Presentation transcript:

Breast Cancer Screening in High-Risk Men: A 12-Year Longitudinal Observational Study of Male Breast Imaging Utilization and Outcomes Mammography screening in men yielded a cancer detection rate of 18 per 1000 examinations, higher than cancer yield among women with average risk of 3–5 per 1000 examinations. Mammographic screening depicted clinically occult breast malignancies in men with high risk, all of which were stage 0–1, improving prognosis. Risk factors associated with male breast cancer included a personal history of breast cancer (odds ratio [OR], 84), Ashkenazi ancestry (OR, 13), genetic mutations (OR, 7), and first-degree family history of breast cancer (OR, 3). In a 74-year-old with a palpable breast mass, mammography shows a subareolar mass with nipple retraction (arrow). Pathology yielded invasive ductal carcinoma. Gao Y et al.
