WELCOME Back to School Patti Roberts 2nd Grade Room 30 2017-2018

Meet Your TEACHER I have been teaching for many, many years, happily most of them have been in Poquoson. I am a graduate of Poquoson City Schools and Christopher Newport University. Both of my children are also graduates of Poquoson schools. Teaching in Poquoson is one of the best jobs a teacher could ask for: great place to work, great people to work with, great students to teach and wonderful families that care.

School POLICIES All of our school’s policies can be found in the Student/Parent Handbook. A few to remember: No birthday treats allowed. Proper shoes should be worn. I can not send home student information for birthday parties or play dates.

Homework POLICY I do not send homework home on a regular basis. I believe each child should read at least 20 minutes per night. Any homework I send home is extra practice on a skill that has already been taught. Each child will need to practice the 5 Focus Words assigned each week for a graded quiz on Fridays.

Attendance POLICY Attendance each day is very important for this grade level because most of the information is taught orally and there is not textbook. Of course, children do get sick and family emergencies happen. Please contact the school and I will collect work for your child.

School SUPPLIES Second graders seem to consume crayons and pencils. I have plenty of pencils, but check periodically with your child to see if more/replacement crayons are needed. I do not mind if children bring colored pencils to school, but they must bring their own sharpener for them since our sharpeners will not work with them.

Teacher WISHLIST I have found that Mr.Clean Magic Erasers are wonderful to use in our classroom. If you would like to donate a box or two, that would be great. I also have 2 bird feeders on our classroom Windows that our students love to Observe. If you would like to Donate a bag of birdseed, The students and the birds would appreciate it!

Field TRIPS This year our grade level has 3 field trips planned. The first will be next month to the Hampton Air and Space Museum. The second will be to the Virginia Living Museum. The last will be to Jamestown Settlement. More info to follow.
