Seminar Attend all seminars for the semester. You are excused 2 (two) absences Absences are for illnesses, appointments, emergencies Allowed to attend multiple times in a week during presentation dates…Except: the first 2 weeks of seminar last week of seminar Once signed in, do not leave from room. If you need to use the restroom, leave Cajun card with GA to show you will return. Be respectful of speakers. No cell phones, laptops, or homework out

Seminar (cont.) Card scanner: acts as your attendance for semester. YOU CANNOT RECEIVE CREDIT FOR SEMINAR WIHOUT YOUR CAJUN CARD. Each time you attend seminar, you will receive an email notifying you with your total attendances, and the date and time of your most recent attendance. Make sure to empty your trash can in your Outlook email each week to avoid being “Over quota.” Graduate Assistants will not have access to your attendance totals during seminar. Email honors@louisiana.edu for information about your attendance if needed.

Honors Building Responsibilities KEEP THE KITCHEN CLEAN – Please have respect for others and clean: ****Throw away used coffee grounds once used ***Pick up trash in the Noisy/Quiet Lounges **Clean up spills completely *Throw away (your) old lunches in the fridge Report theft or questionable activities in the building to any of the Honors staff Maintain quiet in the Quiet Lounge; conversations and visits should occur in the Noisy Lounge.

Computer Lab Tips Here are some ground rules to ensure all Honors students get the most out of the lab: Sign in at the Admin Desk in the lab before using anything. Food and beverages are not permitted in the lab. If you have these items, they must be sealed and placed off the tables. If you have a problem, let Jason or another worker know! Do NOT send duplicate print jobs without resolving an issue. Remember to sign out! Press CTRL+ALT+DEL and click “Sign Out.” Please do not shut down any machines.

Evacuation Plan Judice-Rickels Do not use the elevator during an emergency. Use stairs only during alarms. Exit through side door, front door, or back door using closest available door and avoiding smoke or other visible hazards if possible. Maps are placed in the building showing evacuation routes. Evacuation Plan Griffin Hall Do not use the elevator during an emergency. Use stairway closest to classroom. SERVICE HOURS Volunteering to present an Honors seminar topic gets you 1 Service Hour. Honors Service Hours: Honors students need 4 hours per academic year. This can be done all in one semester. This can be done 2 hrs/semester. It is your choice how you complete your hours. Form for any service hours done outside of Honors Program can be downloaded and printed from the Honors website or Moodle. Turn into second floor Office window in Honors Building.

Contract Request Form Tips: Think about what you wish to do for a contract before discussion with your professor - Do not put the responsibility on them to create the assignment for the contract. It is your responsibility to turn in the signed Request Form with explanation of assignment to the second floor office at the Honors Building. Remember that you CANNOT contract a class that already has an Honors class associated with it. Exception: the Honors course has not been offered recently. Turn in a copy of the syllabus with your request form

Freshmen Elections Freshmen running for Honors Board should begin to turn in their candidacy statements this week and next week. Deliver printed statement to second floor window. It will be posted downstairs in the Quiet Lounge. Candidacy Statement: Basic paragraph of why you are running, your major, some accomplishments, and what you wish to do while on the board. Those running may post flyers and posters for your election in the elevator and throughout the building Candidates are encouraged to announce their candidacy in seminar the week of Sept. 9th – Sept. 13th but may do so afterwards. Also encouraged to attend Fall Mixer and campaign there. Candidacy statements are due Sept. 16th. Elections will be online on Moodle from Wed., Sept. 25th to Fri., Sept. 27th .

Scholarships and Applications Reminder Scholarship Applications for Fall 2019 On the website Sept. 9th Download, fill it out and turn in with transcript at second floor office window in Judice-Rickels Hall – Transcript can come from U-link. Scholarship applications are due Friday, Sept. 27th at 12:00pm.

Presentation Proposals Think of what you would like to present. Voting for presentations is next week. Taurus Colloquium – What is It? Remember: You will receive 1 service hour if you give a presentation.

Student Athlete Mentors Student-Athlete Academic Services is looking for 2-3 mentors to help report online student athlete success during the semester. Days needed are for 1 day a week per student sometime between Monday and Friday, and times needed are 8am – 12pm.
