4 HONORS 50th Anniversary QUESTION: What is the University Honors Program’s name for our mascot, what does it mean, and in what language is it?

5 HONORS 50th Anniversary Trivia
Answer: “Baloo” is the Hindi word for “bear” in the Rudyard Kipling novel The Jungle Book, a story that takes place in the country of India. EXTRA INFO: Baloo was discovered in a closet in the Ira Nelson Horticulture Center and originally belonged to a local doctor who liked to hunt – and whose wife did not like the bear and made him get rid of it. Honors students discovered him and moved the bear to Maxim Doucet Hall where the Honors Program originally resided. He was moved in 2000 when Judice-Rickels Hall opened to Honors, and between the bear and the stand weighs almost a ton!
