Disadvantages of Social Media Buse Beren Eğrİlmez

Addiction Social media is more addictive than cigarettes and alcohol. It can disturb personal lives. The teenagers are the most affected by this addiction. The time wasted on social media can be spent on productive tasks and activities.

Isolation Ironically, online social networking can cause a sense of isolation. There is no real face-to-face human interaction on social media. The more time a person spends on on social media alone, the greater she feels lonely.

Health Issues Most people get lazy because of the excessive use of social networking sites. This brings disorder in their routine life. They miss exercise, which is key to lose weight.

Cyberbullying Before social media, bullying was done face-to-face. However, someone can be bullied anonymously. Anyone can create a fake account and do anything without being traced. Cyberbullying may even drive people to suicide.

FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) In social media, you encounter images and videos showing other people are having more fun than you are. This causes a form of anxiety in which you feel that you are missing out positive experience or emotions.

Negative Body Image On the Internet, you’ll find beautiful people wearing expensive clothes on their perfect bodies. Seeing those pictures on a daily basis makes you conscious about how different you look from them.

Hacking Personal data and privacy can easily be hacked and shared on the Internet. Several personal twitter and Facebook accounts have been hacked in the past. The hacker posted materials that have affected the individuals personal lives.

Depression and Anxiety Spending too much time on social media affects your mood. If you spend more than two hours per day, you feel anxious and depressed. The recommended amount of time you should spend on social networks is half an hour.
