Totton College: BTEC Level 3 In Health and Social Care GRADE CRITERIA: 3A2.P3 Explain the importance of building a professional relationship for partnership work with parents and/or carers in early years settings Task 1: Answer the following questions in detail: Why is it important for parents and carers to have strong relationships with their child’s key person (and other members in the setting)? Complete Activity Sheet 1. How might early years settings communicate with parents / carers about the child in the placement? Why might this be effective or not? Date Due: 12th December GRADE CRITERIA: 3A2.P4 Examine how effective communication affects partnership working with parents and/or carers in early years settings. Task 2: Complete the Activity Sheets using your notes from your lessons and wider reading on the following subjects: Activity Sheet 2: Features of Good Communication Skills Activity Sheet 3: Ways to Communicate with Parents b) Write a paragraph of approx. 300 words that discusses the importance of these communication skills. Date Due: 13th January

Totton College: BTEC Level 3 In Health and Social Care GRADE CRITERIA: 3A2.P5 Explain, using examples from early years settings, the limitations of the role of the early years professional when giving advice to parents and/or carers. 3A2.M2 Analyse how different ways of building professional relationships with parents and/or carers can be used effectively to support partnership work in early years settings Task 3: Complete the Activity Sheets using your notes from your lessons and wider reading on the following subject: Activity Sheet 4: Barriers to Communication Now complete the case studies, answering the questions in full sentences and paragraphs. How can barriers be overcome: Pick 3 examples of when your communication encountered barriers. Reflect on the strategies you used to overcome these barriers. Type the reflection up. You should be aiming for at least 1/3 of a page for each example. Date Due: 27th January GRADE CRITERIA: 3A2.D1 Evaluate how effective partnership work with parents and /or carers in early years settings can impact on outcomes for children. Task 4: Get a copy of the questions that your placement asks parents to complete before their child starts there. Get other copies of any communication with parents. Complete the classwork and activity sheets in plenty of detail and full sentences. The more detail you put, the more it will help you with the real assignment! Date Due: 11th February

Task 2 – activity sheet 2 and 3 plus 300 words. Task 3 – activity sheet 4, plus case studies and reflection on own comms. Task 4 – activity sheets and notes towards the D1 Any other notes/worksheets/etc used to complete this assignment (optional). You should fully word process your assignment unless otherwise stated by your lecturer. Your assignment tasks must be bound by treasury tags or a slide binder.
