Children coping with Bereavement, Divorce, Stepfamilies, Starting in childcare, Moving schools/classes, arrival of sibling, moving house, family illness, moving to uni/college, starting work

How could you support this child through the Transition he is making as he starts school? How else can you support children through this and other transitions? Unit 024– 6.1, 6.2 and Unit 022 – 5.2

Children and Young People may experience different types of transitions, which may include: Emotional, affected by personal experiences, eg, bereavement, entering/leaving care Physical, eg, moving to a new educational establishment, a new home or locality, from one activity to another Physiological, eg, long term medical conditions Intellectual eg, moving from pre-school to primary to post primary Smaller daily transitions Explain how you would support children and young people during each transition. Evaluate how each transition may affect their development and evaluate the effect on children and young people of having positive relationships during periods of transition linking this to your own experiences within the setting. Assessment Criteria: Unit 022, 5.1, 5.2, Unit 024, 6.1

Analyse the possible effects of poor quality attachments on the development of babies and children. Possible effects of poor quality attachments may include: • Effects on social and emotional development and emotional security • Effects on ability to settle, take risks and make the most of learning opportunities • Possible effects on short and long term mental health • Effects on relationships with parents and professional carers NOTE; This may be covered in unit 22 Assignment 4 Assessment criteria 3.2 and 5.3 Explain how babies and young children learn and develop best from a basis of loving secure relationships with carers and key persons in work settings and evaluate ways of working in partnership with carers.
