Leadership

What makes a person a good Leader ?

Boss Or Leader ? The Boss knows how things should be done. The Leader shows how they should be done. The Boss always says “I” The Leader always says “We” The Boss shouts “Go” The Leader shouts “Let’s Go” The Boss gets things done by using authority on others The Leader gets things done willingly by the willing

Action Centred Leadership Satisfying the needs of individuals within the team Team Task Individual Motivating and keeping the team happy You Ensuring the task is completed

Leadership Checklist Did I understand the task ? Did I plan and explain to all the team? Did I evaluate as I went along , change if required – but explain changes to all the team? Did I discover and use the skills of the team? Did I meet the needs of the team and individuals within the team ? Did I help each one to learn new skills ? Did I encourage the team to ask questions, take decisions and overcome personal difficulties ? Did I set the right example for them to follow ?

Golden Rules Of Leadership Understand the task and if not sure ask! Brief ALL your team and check they understand. Know your team and their capabilities. Use the appropriate leadership style to the task and person Be a ‘Leader’ not a ‘Boss’ Task, Team and Individual – they all need to be satisfied. Set a good example and give people a chance to develop Praise in public – Punish in private – Be Constructive Have fun and enjoy leadership
