Power of OU Campus Gadgets Logan Loertscher| IT Web Team Mark Snyder| IT WEB TEAM Welcome, My name is Logan Loertscher with IT Web. And with me is Mark Snyder, Student programmer on the web team. Today, I'll be talking about the "POWER OF OU CAMPUS GADGETS"

Agenda What is a gadget? Gadgets that are available at USU. Dashboard Gadgets Sidebar Gadgets Creating Gadgets that work for you. In this presentation, I'll be covering - What are OU Campus Gadgets.  - What Gadgets are available at USU. - How the Web Team is building Gadgets that work for you.

What’s a gadget? "Gadgets are little programs that provide additional or streamlined functionality in OU Campus." Where can they be found? Sidebar Gadgets Dashboard Gadgets Ok, so what is a gadget? "Gadgets are little programs that provide additional or streamlined functionality in OU Campus." There are two types of Gadgets. Sidebar Gadgets and Dashboard Gadgets. You can find the sidebar Gadget by clicking the plug icon in the top right corner of OU Campus. If you can't find the Gadget your looking for you can click the gear to see all of the different Gadgets that are available to you. To view the Dashboard Gadgets, Simple click on the "Dashboard" link next to the OU Campus Logo. The same applies, if you can't find the Gadget your looking for you can click the gear to see all of the different Gadgets that are available to you. We have setup a resource page that you can reference anytime at. Dashboard gadgets Activity1 Bookmarks1 Inbox My Checked-Out Content1 Old Content Report  Quality Report  Workflow1 1. Available on both the dashboard and the sidebar. Let's just dive in. Activity: Shows all of the latest changes on your site. Bookmarks: Used to easily get back to files to edit a lot. Inbox: Shows you any messages other users have sent you, and any system notifications.  My Checked-Out Content: Shows you all of the file that you have checked out. Makes it easy to check them back in quickly. Old Content Report: shows you pages that might have outdated content. Try to keep this list empty. NOTE: Some of the gadgets that are both on the sidebar and dashboard behave differently between the two. i.e. the Bookmarks gadget on the dashboard lets you view selected bookmarks whereas the sidebar version lets you set a bookmark for the page you are on in addition to letting you view bookmarks. Available as both a dashboard and sidebar gadget. 2. Only visible while editing or viewing a page. 3. Only visible while editing a page. 4. Only visible while viewing a page.

Creating Gadgets that work for you. Do you find yourself doing the same task over and over? Do you ever wish a task you do would take fewer clicks? Is there any information you wish was more readily available to you? If you can do it in OU Campus, there's a good chance we can make a Gadget that can help. Reports are available by request via contacting the PAD team (pad@usu.edu).
