Why Should I Care???? Accidents happen all the time! Every year 300,000 kids go to the emergency room because of bike injuries

Preparing Your Bike

Bike Helmets Bike helmets are very important Your helmet should have a sticker that says it meets standards set by the consumer product safety commission (CPSC)

How Should My Helmet Fit? Not too small or too big Never wear hat under bike helmet Helmet should be worn level and cover forehead The straps should be fastened tight enough so you can’t pull or twist the helmet on your head

See and Be Seen How can you stay visible to motorist? Wear bright colored clothing! Stay aware of traffic around you Make eye contact with motorist Ride where crossing, passing, and approaching motorists can see you

Stay Alert and Listen Obstacles in your path Car doors opening Road problems: potholes, litter, damage Children who might run in front of you Motorist who don’t see you

Obey the Rules of the Road Ride on right of traffic When turning, use your turning lane Obey signs, light and road markings Give right of way to pedestrians Use correct hand signals:

Important Things To Know Cars and trucks have blind spots- especially in the right rear corner

Bicycle Safety Tips Six point safety check every time you ride your bike. Protect your head, wear a helmet! See and be seen. Be visible. Stay alert. Look and listen. Obey the rules of the road. Use your hand signals. Remember that some drivers might not see you.
