The Concluding part … By C K Lau

Two issues for us to answer: The Sustainability Issue (this school) Will it be entertained by language teachers and other teachers? How to fit it into the school plan? The Promotion Issue (our role as a COE) Will language teachers in Hong Kong buy the concept? Atmosphere, Skill, Tool, Planning in Advance Promotion Scheme and refresher training course YES!

What we have achieved at Own-school level Ms. Chan’s Blog Book Report Writing Environmental Pioneers Hand in Hand in Hong Kong F.6 Students News Commenting Poetry-Writing Class Prose-writing Class Liberal Studies

What we have achieved at Own-school level 2 subject departments, showed willingness to use web 2.0 tools in teaching and learning next year: - Chinese language department - Liberal Subject department Change in school culture

What we have done so far at Territory-wide level We have provided training to more than 1,000 teachers. We have created a HKEdcity Platform and welcome by users. We have produced successful cases of using blogs in language learning. We have launched a Teacher Blog Promotion Scheme and made some interim assessment. The result is positive.

What we have done so far at Territory-wide level Our effort coincides with the directions of the the Third Strategy on Information Technology. The idea of using web 2.0 in language learning is widely received via different media..

Our examples testify that they form learning communities They empower students to learn in a way previously unavailable Students act as both learners and teachers Students can choose where to learn, what to learn and what to write They involve students, teachers, parents and other people to create ad-hoc learning communities Values come when using content in creative, interactive and meaningful way Teachers need not use artificial effort the enforce the practice

What we can do next Disseminate cases of good practices to teachers Launching more sophisticated Promotion Schemes to promote using Blogs and other web 2.0 tools for language learning and teaching with the following foci: Forming Student learning community Forming school learning community Using web 2.0 tools for learning and teaching Further developing the HKedcity Platform More training to language teachers – the idea of learning 2.0 in the age of web 2.0

End of Presentation Thank You!
