1 KA1 “HIGH SCHOOL HIGH TECH SCHOOL OF THE FUTURE” project lasts from August the 1st, 2014 till July the 31st, 2016.

2 Colegiul Tehnic “Edmond Nicolau” is the second institution in size of Vrancea High School education system: 90 teachers 900 young students aged between years old 30 adult learners following evening classes modern facilities

3 “Edmond Nicolau” Technical College adapts its curriculum to the development of the educational strategies in Romania by the introduction of the tablet in the teaching-learning process. With this in view, the teachers’ professional training involves developing digital skills to use the new communication technologies, computer, tablet, ipad in lesson planning, in cross-curricular activities, in preparing students for competitions, contests, national exams.

4 The training course is “TAP-SWIPE-PINCH
The training course is “TAP-SWIPE-PINCH. ANDROID, IPADS AND WINDOWS TABLETS CHANGING THE WAY TO TEACH AND LEARN” which is organized by Euneos Oy Finland Company, a small enterprise promoting the use of educational ICT helping teachers and schools to manage their educational projects online. There are 3 sessions of the structured training course: 26-31st of October 2014, of March 2015, th of October 2016.

6 The aims of the project: - to train competent teachers who can use the tablet during the class - to develop teachers’ digital, intercultural, English communication skills - to improve the quality of the teaching-learning activities through modern methods and strategies of using the tablet and free apps - to internationalize the institution through multinational partnerships

8 The selected participants are 9 teachers who teach foreign languages, science, technological subjects, mathematics, IT and psychology. They prepare students for the baccalaureate examination and need to: - create interactive exercises, adapt video and audio files to produce and understand written and oral messages, use blogs for creative activities, make media presentations on culture and civilization topics - simulate physics experiments, chemical reactions and anatomic models - introduce the tablet in mechatronics, computer science and computer-aided design, use Android operating systems to prototype hardware and software robots - use mathematical software to solve problems and exercises, to prove theorems 21st Century Skills and teachers. The model of teacher training needs to change

9 Teachers need to be subject matter experts but they must become experts in the 21st century skills too. Find and evaluate authentic web based content Use polling software to create area-time survey in class Create, edit and share audio, video and image content Create digital portfolios Share resources on the cloud Create visually stimulating graphics Create personal learning networks to connect with other educators Set up a website, blog or wiki for our class Use game - based learning Use social media for professional development purposes Use digital assessment tools to create quizzes Use file sharing tools to share docs and files with students online Curate online content using social bookmarking sites Conduct effective online searches

10 The roles of a teacher in the 21st century: To help young people know where to find knowledge To know what to do with it when they get it To know good knowledge from bad knowledge To know how to apply, synthesise and be creative with it To add to it To know which bit to use, when, how To remember key bit of it

The impact of the project: On participants: - developing not only digital and linguistic skills but also cultural, intercultural, civic and social ones acquiring new teaching-learning methods and strategies by using the tablet, the Ipad, and the applications - familiarizing with European education systems, increasing motivation for professional development and European cooperation

12 On students: - developing digital and communicative skills by photo/video editing - visual literacy skills, ways of expression through media, techniques of critical analysis of the media output - greater autonomy in learning - collaborative work increasing creativity, originality, self confidence, motivation to learn

13 On institution: - increasing the institutional capacity of implementing innovation using the tablet - increasing competition on local level among technical high schools - developing the European dimension of the institution - improving the performance standards according to the new tendencies in education
