What could you learn from this clip? Importance of intrinsic motivation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tjYoKCBYag&feature=related What could you learn from this clip? Units 3 and 4_Business Management Transition_JED_2019

What could your business management journey look like? Group work: Sort the allocated images into a logical sequence that could reflect your Business Management learning journey this year. Label each image in a numerical order, providing reasons for your choice. Units 3 and 4_Business Management Transition_JED_2019

See – think – wonder vcaa grade distribution data. Group work: Analyse the data about grade distribution for unit 3 and unit 4 coursework and final examination results for 2017. In 2017, there were 15,190 students who completed the course in Victoria. Thus, 1,367 students would have been awarded a study score of 40 or over [9% of the population] And 303 students would have been awarded a study score of 45 or over [2% of the population] However, students awarded an A+ achieved 71% or over, students who were awarded an A achieved between 63 and 70% with students being awarded a B+ achieving between 55 and 62% Units 3 and 4_Business Management Transition_JED_2019

Exam format Ultimate goal: Complete a 2 hour exam worth 75 marks. That is about 1.6 minutes per mark Questions may include tables of data for your analysis Exam format New study design 2017 on Units 3 and 4_Business Management Transition_JED_2019

Task / content / limiting words Task words: These words outline what you need to do with the content or key knowledge. eg. explain, compare, evaluate Content words: These words tell you what areas of key knowledge need to be addressed in the answer. Limiting words: These words define the scope and focus of the answer. They restrict by number or exclusion of particular topics. Units 3 and 4_Business Management Transition_JED_2019

Bring your ideas to class next lesson. Homework: annotate task / content / limiting words in 2017 exam THEN what could you learn from the 2017 Examination report? Bring your ideas to class next lesson. Units 3 and 4_Business Management Transition_JED_2019

what did I learn from the 2017 examination report? Units 3 and 4_Business Management Transition_JED_2019

Study skills Units 3 and 4_Business Management Transition_JED_2019

How can I use the study design outcomes to help me? List or highlight key terms here This gives you an overview of ‘area of study 1’ as listed in the VCAA study design. In year 12, exam questions are often written to closely match the wording of the study design so it is important to be familiar with it. You could be asked to apply ANY task word to this wording OR wording from each Key Knowledge point. It is essential for you to familiarise yourself with the study design. You can find it here: http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/Pages/vce/studies/busmngmnt/businesstindex.aspx Units 3 and 4_Business Management Transition_JED_2019

Key skills: unit 3, outcome 1 Also use the ‘key skills’ to help you Units 3 and 4_Business Management Transition_JED_2019

Unit 3 overview If Unit 3 School assessed Coursework [a SaC] contributes 25% to your final result, THEN how much is each school mark worth? Outcome 1 is 1 SAC. Outcome 2 can include part a and b = 2 SACs. Outcome 3 is generally 1 SAC. What key terms would you note here? Eg. task words Units 3 and 4_Business Management Transition_JED_2019

What can i do to study better? Tips for success: Obstacles to overcome: Tips for success: reading relevant text pages before class, avoiding distractions, making sure that notes are not ‘circular’, including HOW and WHY in answers, using case examples when asked to do so, completing questions under timed conditions, watching teaching bubble videos, watching Edrolo videos – and completing relevant questions, using the study design as a ‘bible’, using text book and other notes as ‘resources’ to critically evaluate. Obstacles to overcome: Playing catch up on class notes and worksheet activities, being circular with my explanations, writing brief answers, not linking theory to case study when required, listening to loud music when studying, writing out someone else’s notes without critically evaluating and linking to study design outcomes. Units 3 and 4_Business Management Transition_JED_2019

Tricky task words Using sentence structures Units 3 and 4_Business Management Transition_JED_2019

What is global marking? Marking each question as a ‘whole answer’ rather than separate parts. VCAA marks against criteria. Marks are awarded - not deducted. No half marks. No deductions for bad handwriting or spelling. Contradictory answers will not receive full marks. ‘Extra’ answers will not be marked – only relevant number of items will be marked – those that are written first. More marks for existing questions. Eg. more 4 mark questions instead of 1 or 2 mark questions. Apply knowledge to a case or scenario. Units 3 and 4_Business Management Transition_JED_2019

How would these questions be marked globally? 2 mark discuss 2 mark compare 4 mark discuss 4 mark compare 4 mark justify 10 mark evaluate this statement: “Improved productivity, competitiveness and effectiveness for a business can only come from advances in technology.” 2m discuss = one + and one – 2m compare = one similarity and one difference 4 m discuss = two + and two – OR three + and one – OR one + and three - 4 m justify = outline this choice then 2 or 3 reasons WHY this is a good choice 10 mark evaluate this statement –Must respond to quote. Eg. Although technology is very good at increasing business outputs and business objectives to become better than rival businesses, it is not the only way to achieve this. a strength of technology is…. (using examples – link to productivity, competitiveness and effectiveness). However, a weakness of technology is ….However, another way to improve productivity and competitiveness is to use quality strategies….. Units 3 and 4_Business Management Transition_JED_2019

Task words & using sentence structures Distinguish Compare Discuss Evaluate Justify Analyse Distinguish: X is…… whereas y is… [always use a linking word to link same features] Compare: A similarity is… a difference is… [using same features] Discuss: A positive is… a negative is… Evaluate: A strength is…. a weakness is… and the best choice for this business is…..because… Justify: the best option is x. This is where…..this is the best choice because… Analyse: A factor affecting decision making is x because….Another factor affecting decision making is y because… Units 3 and 4_Business Management Transition_JED_2019

Homework: complete your learning commitment finish sentence structures for task words begin a glossary for unit 3, area 1 Remember to critically evaluate your glossary list so that it reflects the wording of the study design. Terms should not be ‘circular’ [defined with same term] Units 3 and 4_Business Management Transition_JED_2019
