Statement of intent Key Stage: 5 Subject: Business S Academic Year: 2019-20 The Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Business is an Applied General qualification. It is for post-16 learners who want to continue their education through applied learning and who aim to progress to higher education and ultimately to employment in the business sector. A Business student will develop have a keen interest in learning about: Types of organisations & their purposes Organisational structures to enable success Business environments Internal & External influences on organisations Importance of enterprise & innovation Personal finance Business finance Marketing & devising marketing campaigns The use of market research agencies, conducting market research and data analysis By the end of Key Stage 5, the intention is that students learn to think, speak and write like a business enthusiast. They will respond to real world risks & opportunities by engaging as active participants in the business world as employees or business owners. They will have a good understanding of business concepts and will be able to use these to predict the behaviour of markets, organisations and consumers. At the same time, they will recognise the situations in which these predictions may not become a reality. They will be able to apply business concepts and models to situations in the real world. Written work will be clear, accurate and detailed; and will be structured in the following way: identify / explain / analyse / evaluate / judgement. A clear chain of reasoning will run through all written work using the PEELA framework. Business terminology will be used with confidence. What could this qualification lead to? The qualification carries UCAS points and will support entry to many higher education courses. The qualification can also support progression to employment directly, or via an Apprenticeship. How does the qualification provide employability skills? There are opportunities throughout the programme to give learners practice in developing employability skills such as: cognitive and problem-solving skills: use critical thinking, approach non-routine problems applying expert and creative solutions, use systems and technology intrapersonal skills: communicating, working collaboratively, negotiating and influencing, self-presentation interpersonal skills: self-management, adaptability and resilience, self-monitoring and development.
