Class Notes Geography: The Middle Colonies were: Delaware, Pennsylvania, new jersey, new york -Rich lands, rolling hills, wide rivers, mountains -Well weather, warm summers, mild winters, and long going seasons. Natural reasources- animals for the fur trade, wheat, corn, oats, iron (plows, tools, kettles, and nails) This helped our colonies region because: all of the tools and crops made people want to live there AND it made an impact on the trade Dutch founded New York and New Jersey William Penn founded Pennsylvania William Penn was from London William Penn founded the new colony - The Swedes, Dutch, Scots, Fins lived between the Hutson and the Delaware river -

Political The Quakers were lead by William Penn Supported non-violence and religious tolerance Sir George Carteret and Lord John Berkeley were some of the leaders The government allowed christians to have a free religion King Charles the second was a ruler at the time

Religion The Middle Colonies had a uniquely diverse religion Each colony had its own religious rules

Economic Ship building was a big industry at the time Because of the good climate and the rich land, they were able to grow wheat, barley, oats Wheat, barley, and oats were in a group called staple crops, because they were always needed -Slaves were part of the economy, but not as much as the south Trade was also a big part of the economy Women mainly ran farms and buisnesses such as grocery stores and bakeries and more -

Social Dutch started trading and exchanged with the Iroquois People made a group of friends called the Quakers Sometimes the colonists had bad relashonships with others because they had slaves work - William Penn promised Christians to be free of their religion
