Geography* is… The study of the Earth’s features & their impact on its people Geographic features include rivers, mountains, oceans, deserts, plains, forests

The 5 Themes of Geography Location Place Human/ Environment Interaction Movement Regions Where is it? -Absolute Location* – is given in degrees of latitude & longitude Relative Location* – depends upon a point of reference What is it like? -Physical Characteristics: Landforms & ecosystems -Human Characteristics: Bridges, roads, buildings, culture, language How do people interact with & change their environment? -People depend on their environment for food. -People adapt(change, modify) their environment How are people & places linked? -Transportation, communication, trade, migration What are the unifying features & how do they change over time? - Geographers divide the world into regions because they have similar physical characteristics
