Project Part-financed by the European Union Towards an integrated transport system in the Baltic Sea Region Categories to describe measures - General information TitleShort description of the main points. Transport aspects Pointing out which transport mode is affected and which part of the transport chain. Involved players Description of the main players which are involved in implementing the measure. Geographic range Naming the countries and the geographic range (local, regional, national, European, worldwide) which is affected by the measure. Time frame Schedule for e.g. initiating, planning, implementing the measure. Stockholm, Feb

Project Part-financed by the European Union Towards an integrated transport system in the Baltic Sea Region Example: Slow steaming General information Title Order of slow steaming vessels for over sea transportation. Transport aspects Deep sea transport on the long haulage. Involved players Tchibo: German retailer for coffee, consumer goods Evergreen: Shipping line Geographic range Measure affects deep sea transportation between Asia and Northern Europe. Time frame Planning: XX/2008-XX/2009 Implementing: XX/2008-XX/2009 Running: XX/2008-XX/2009 Stockholm, Feb

Project Part-financed by the European Union Towards an integrated transport system in the Baltic Sea Region Example: Slow steaming Planning and Implementation Initial situation No specific requirements considering speed or fuel consumption in transportation procurement. Objective Reduce CO 2 -emissions by 5 %. Measure description Assignment of a shipping line using slow steamers to reduce fuel consumption because of the lower speed. Implementa- tion process Market analysis of slow steaming offers only one shipping line offered this special product Tender process Assignment of the chosen shipping line reduction of speed from 25 to 19.8 resp to 20.5 kn Impact Reduction of CO 2 -emissions: 4.2 % (in relation to overall company emissions) 26 % (in relation to this part of over sea transportation). Transit time increases Current state ongoing Stockholm, Feb
