2 SC. Asia Project Training on Developing NAP Introduction to NAP Idea Awareness and concern on SC, but not much implementation. Some policies, but a lack of a coherent framework/plan that integrates various activities for a common goal. Need for more concrete outputs (decoupling consumption from environmental degradation)  Capacity building on drafting national action plans on sustainable consumption (sector specific).

Asia Project Training on Developing NAP NAP EXERCISE Country team exercise (12 teams) Each team supported by one resource person Go through the 6 steps and fill out the NAP sheet This is an exercise to test the NAP, If you do not have the information, assume you do. Plenary: the main findings of each country will be summarized in a matrix

6 SC. Asia Project Training on Developing NAP Purpose of the Booklet Developed as part of SC. Asia project for this seminar. Provide guidance on how national action plans on sustainable consumption (NAPs) may be developed. The model proposed in this booklet: provides a step-by-step approach includes basic elements that should be included in NAPs each section contains generic text & explanation about what country specific information is needed. The model draws on the UN Guidelines & input from the European and Asian reviews.

Asia project Consumption patterns in your country  To explain why sustainable consumption is importation for your country Your Role Use the generic text in the booklet as an introduction for your NAP Describe the consumption patterns in your country Add any information you think is important to explain why your country need to address SC

Asia Project Training on Developing NAP NAP Model - Part 2 Overview & Priority Areas Elements Status of sustainable consumption in your country  Policies & regulations  Programs  Challenges Priority areas  Identify a specific focus to make the NAP realistic & workable Your Role Collect information about the status of sustainable consumption initiatives in your country Identify a priority area - product/service/sector

Asia Project Training on Developing NAP NAP Model - Part 3 Objective & Targets Elements Objective of NAP  A short statement containing information –Focus –Purpose –Stakeholders Specific targets  Realistic  Measurable  Quantifiable Your Role Develop the targets for the priority area selected in part 2 In the actual process of drafting NAP, consultation with stakeholders is essential to develop a realistic target!!!

Asia Project Training on Developing NAP NAP Model - Part 4 Actions to promote SC Elements Introduction to how actions can contribute to the overall objective of SC using the model developed by Asian Review Awareness, education & marketing Waste management Certification & product information Sustainable government practices Impartial product testing Your role Decide what concrete actions are needed Description of the actions at least identify:  What – targets  How – i.e. institutional set up, scale of the action  Who– role of stakeholders  When – timetables  Potential funding sources

Asia Project Training on Developing NAP NAP Model - Part 6 Monitoring & Evaluation Elements Indicators  Indicators to be used  Methods of collecting the indicators Periodic review  Timeframe  Responsible agency Your Role Develop specific indicators & indicate the assessment  Who – responsible agency  How – indicators collection  How often- timeframe In the actual process of drafting NAP  inter-agency consultation is indispensable to deciding who, how and how often.  Developing appropriate partnership with industry to get the right data to measure the progress is needed.
