PROGRAM REVIEW PROCESS The University of Georgia

Assemble Review Team Faculty members outside the Department Faculty members outside the College Faculty members outside the University

Review Procedures and Methods of Data Collection Department did self study Review team met with Faculty, Staff, Students, and Department Head An anonymous electronic survey of undergraduate and graduate students, staff and faculty was conducted.

Unit Analysis Are the mission, goals, objectives, and outcomes appropriate for the unit? Comparable within its field? At a level to achieve/strive for excellence? How do the unit and its programs fill a significant role in the University’s mission?

Unit Analysis Continued….. What percentages of the Unit’s programs are dedicated to teaching, research, and service? Who benefits from the Unit’s programs? What is the current status of the Unit and its programs, as determined by the faculty? Where does it stand relative to similar Units in the region? In the nation?

Unit Analysis Continued….. Have priorities changed nationally in the field? Do the Unit’s programs reflect evolution in the field? If not, what is needed to make them current?

Unit Analysis Continued….. Does the Unit have adequate resources to fulfill its mission? Achieve its goals? How does the Unit interact and cooperate with other departments or organizations within the University?

Unit Analysis Continued….. What percentage of the Unit’s budget is supported by: tuition receipts, state funds, contract research, competitive research grants, contributions, other funds? Does the Unit generate a significant portion of its operating funds?

To what extent does the Unit use state money to support research and research funds to support educational programs? How are decisions made to allocate Unit resources? Are administrative duties equitably distributed?

Are reporting lines clear and clearly communicated to those affected? Does the administrative structure effectively support the Units programs?

Unit Analysis Continued….. Are teaching assignments and teaching EFT equitably distributed? Are time and resources made available for faculty development? Are criteria for promotion and merit raises clearly stated and equitably applied?

Unit Analysis Continued….. What strategies are employed to attract and retain quality faculty? What strategies have been used to attract and retain a diversity of faculty? Presuming vacant positions were available in the unit, how would positions best be reallocated to match changing priorities in the field and the needs of the unit?
