Direct and Indirect Objects
Direct Objects are nouns or pronouns that receive the action of the verb. answers “who?” or “what?”
Tips to find direct objects Find subject Find verb Then ask “who?” or “what?” is receiving the action of the verb?
The boy bought food. Examples What is being bought? subject verb direct object
Jane likes roses. Examples What is being liked? verb subject direct object
Indirect Object Nouns or pronouns in the predicate Answers to whom?, for whom?, to what?, for what? Think of indirect objects as receivers of the direct object. This may not ALWAYS work, but it will USUALLY work.
