Course organisation Monographic course (Giglioni): lectures, 2 hours each, in the second semester (2 days/week) Language training classes (King/Potter): classes, 2 hours each, in the second semester (2days/week) 3

Course objectives & learning outcomes 1) advancing students’ foreign language competence (4 skills) 2) Focus on ESP (English for Specific Purposes) special discourses and genres (also) in institutional contexts. 4

Expected Outcomes + corresponding roughly to Cambridge First Certificare (mark A) 6

B2: Vantage or Upper-Intermediate Can understand the main ideas of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialisation. Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party. Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options. 7 7
