Why do we come to the dentist?

So the dentist can check our teeth –To make sure we are cleaning our teeth properly, everyday. –Are we eating the right healthy foods? –To make sure there are no decay holes. To fix up the teeth.

The right foods for healthy teeth Crunchy fruits and vegetables –Carrots, Apples Calcium foods – Dairy foods –Milk –Yogurt –Cheese Drink water

The wrong foods Bad foods have lots of sticky sugar Bad food is JUNK food –Lollies –Chips –Cakes –Soft drinks –Anything with sugar added –(sugar on cereal, sweetened juices, fast food)

Whats wrong with sugar?

It sticks to your teeth like glue It makes your teeth feel furry It makes plaque grow It makes holes in your teeth

What is plaque? Plaque is white and sticky It grows on teeth Plaque is made of germs The tiny germs love to eat sugar The germs make holes in the teeth

Germs are eating our teeth!

Invaders cause decay = Holes

Holes start small, and grow big

Decay can make teeth hurt

Thats why we brush and floss everyday

Or the tooth might have to be pulled out
