Nouns

Person, Place, Thing, or Idea Concrete noun: can see or touch (building, dog, football, pencil, etc.) Abstract noun: cannot see or touch (love, fairness, loyalty, pride, etc.) Common noun: noun that is not specific (school, man, horse, game, etc.) Proper noun: noun that is specific (Deshler Middle School, Brian, Hersey, etc.)

Collective Nouns A group of nouns acting as a whole Team, choir, faculty, band, class, club, swarm, family

Tip To make sure a word is a noun, use “THE”, “A”, or “AN” in front of the word. This only works with common nouns. THE kid, A chance, AN idea, THE nerve,
