3 Nouns Person, place, thing, or idea 4 types

4 Common Proper Any person, place, or thing
Ex: man, store, city, restaurant Specific person, place, or thing Ex: Bob, Walmart, New York, McDonalds

5 Concrete abstract A noun you can physically see, smell, touch, or taste Ex: desk, cup, donut A noun you cannot physically see, smell, touch, or taste Ex: love, peace, anger

6 Verbs Action Helping Linking

7 Action Verb Shows someone or something doing something
Ex: eat, run, sleep

8 Helping verb Goes in front of the verb Ex:
Is running, am running, are running, was running, Will run, shall run, should run, would run Can run, could run May run, might run, must run

9 Linking Verb We are happy. She is a shopaholic. I am well.
Linking verbs do not express action. Ex: We are happy. She is a shopaholic. I am well.

10 Adjectives Describes a noun.
Ex: red truck, joyful music, delectable donut

11 ADVerbs Describes a verb.
Ex: Happily rode my bike, cautiously walked into the haunted house

12 Pronoun Replaces a noun Ex: he, she, him, her, it, I, you Boy- Him

13 Why are they useful? Sierra is a girl. Sierra is nice. Sierra goes to Cholla Middle School. Sierra loves to be in writing class. Instead….Sierra is a nice girl and she goes to Cholla Middle School. Her favorite class is writing. Sounds better!
