Title Post-2010 Communication (19 January) Trends Implications Achievements and shortcomings of 2010 policy Options for a post-2010 target

2050 Vision Biodiversity and ecosystem services – the world's natural capital – are preserved, valued and, insofar as possible, restored for their intrinsic value and so that they can continue to support economic prosperity and human well-being as well as avert catastrophic changes linked to biodiversity loss.

2020 Target: Options Option 1 Option 2 Option 3 Option 4 Significantly reduce the rate of loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services in the EU by 2020 Option 2 Halt the loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services in the EU by 2020 Option 3 Halt the loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services in the EU by 2020 and restore them insofar as possible Option 4 Halt the loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services in the EU by 2020 and restore them insofar as possible, and step up the EU's contribution to averting global biodiversity loss
