Goal Setting

Why Set Goals? Setting goals is a way for me to identify and plan what and how I am going to achieve and grow. By writing down my goals I am committing myself to accomplishing them. That means that my goals need to be important and make sense to me.

What is a Goal Anyway? What I want to accomplish and how I am going to do that My choices as what I need to do – my goals, not someone else’s Long Term Goals – will take longer to accomplish Short Term Goals – can be achieved in a few days or weeks

S.M.A.R.T. Goals are: SPECIFIC - I know exactly what I am striving for. MEASURABLE – I can do it! I can answer very specifically, when and how I will know I attained my goal. ACTION-ORIENTED – I have a plan of activity including the resources I will use that will allow me to reach my goal. REALISTIC - Challenging myself is important and I want to aim high; however, I also need to be realistic. TANGIBLE – my goals are clear and not vague.

Setting Goals – How to I identify what is important and what I need to accomplish I think of effective ways to reach the goals I need to be motivated and committed to achieving my goals if I made them I need to let others know what my goals are and support me in reaching them I need to be flexible and ready to re-adjust my goals and not give up on them

The Benefits of Setting Goals I will have less stress and anxiety about my work if I have a plan I will be able to concentrate better on getting things done, and have more free time for other things I will have more self-confidence I will perform better, and feel proud and happy about my accomplishments I will control my own time and be my own boss
