Ragtime – 1900-1910 Ragtime is a style of popular music that began in America Its main identifying trait is its ragged or syncopated rhythm. Performing this required great skill, musicians began to “compete” with eachother. less concerned with musical values, designed as they were to reach a large and undiscriminating audience (not as formal as art music)
