What is a CLAIM?

A CLAIM is a writer’s position on a problem or issue. If you’ve ever expressed your opinion, then you’ve made a claim.

What is a COUNTERCLAIM?

A COUNTERCLAIM is an objection that you anticipate from your opponent. Every argument has two sides, to strengthen your argument, think about what your opponent might say!

What is a REBUTTAL? “Back at ya, Big Boy!!!”

A REBUTTAL is your response to that objection A REBUTTAL is your response to that objection. This exposes the weaknesses of your opponent’s counterclaim and shows why your position is stronger. “My opponent feels that the government should not pass a law that bans plastic bags and bottles.
