mercantilism Economic Policy in Europe between the 16th through 18th Centuries Governments regulate economic activities Increasing Exports to other countries Limiting foreign imports Colonies make money for the country because it has natural resources that can me turned into manufactured goods, to be exported.

Navigation Acts First one was passed in 1651- No foreign ships can trade with American colonies Restrict the types of products produced in the colonies Then requires the colonies to buy the products that Britain produced from their products Staple Act 1663 All goods being shipped to Europe has to go through England first so that England can tax the goods

Colonies actually benefit Shipbuilding Industry booms because the more the colonists ship, the more boats England will need Protected market for their raw materials Prices were low because England required them to buy goods Smuggling booms- so not only can you buy cheap stuff from England, but you can also buy cheaper stuff from the smugglers
