Point-of-View 1st person 2nd person (rare) 3rd person Alternating Told in “I” by a character within the story 2nd person (rare) Told in “you” to create intimacy with the reader 3rd person Told in “s/he” to give an outside feeling Alternating Narration can change between characters and POV

Types of Narrative Stream of Consciousness Character Unreliable Attempts to mimic natural thought Character A real “person” within from within presents the story Unreliable Narrator is not necessarily trustworthy or informed Epistolary Written in letter/diary form

Continued 3rd Person Subjective/Limited 3rd Person Objective The narrator has thoughts, feelings and bias that can effect the story (often has limited knowledge) 3rd Person Objective Narrator tells the story without interjecting emotion, thoughts, feelings, or bias 3rd Person Omniscient The narrator is not a character and simply tells the story and the character’s thoughts (complete knowledge)
