APPENDICULAR SKELETON - pectoral girdle - pelvic girdle - upper limbs - lower limbs

PECTORAL GIRDLE Consists of: scapula & clavicle Allows the upper limb great mobility

PELVIC GIRDLE Formed by the pair of hip bones Supports the bladder and abdominal contents

UPPER LIMBS Humerus: arm bone shoulder to elbow Radius and Ulna: forearm bones elbow to wrist The radius is located on the thumb side of the hand When you rotate the forearm, the radius is actually crossing over the ulna http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMZ9yy4NI98

UPPER LIMB CONT’D Carpals Metacarpals Phalanges Proximal Phalanx Distal Phalanx Middle Phalanx

LOWER LIMB Femur Thigh bone From hip to knee Patella Knee cap Sesamoid bone in the tendon of the quad muscle

LOWER LIMB COND’T Tibia and Fibula Leg bones from knee to ankle Tibia is medial and fibula is lateral What are your ankle bones? Distal ends of the tibia and fibula (medial and lateral malleolus

LOWER LIMB CONT’D Tarsals Ankle bones Calcaneus or the heel bone Talus Metatarsals 5 bones of the foot Unite with the toes Phalanges Toe bones Three per toe with the exception of the big toe Proxiaml, medial, distal
