Subordinating Conjunctions and Complex Sentences

The purpose The purpose of a subordinating conjunction is to establish a relationship between the independent and dependent clauses. TO CREATE COMPLEX SENTENCES = DEPENDENT CLAUSE + INDEPENDENT CLAUSE

Just a reminder… An independent clause is a complete sentence. Example: Johnny likes waffles. A dependent clause is not a complete sentence. Example: Although Johnny likes waffles See? There has to be an independent clause to make “Although Johnny likes waffles” a complete sentence.

The Lineup after although as as if as long as as though because before even if even though if if only in order that now that once rather than since so that than that though till unless until when whenever where whereas wherever while

Example Sentences Although I ate breakfast, I was hungry at 10:00. I am going to write the paper since you did the research Even though you lost the book, I will loan you another one. Because you ate the last muffin, you have to buy a new batch.

Note If the sentence begins with the dependent clause, such as: Although I ate breakfast, I was hungry at 10:00. a comma will follow .

Why should I do this? The sentences are complex and boost scores when used correctly. Also, English teachers love them and so do college professors. HOWEVER! Do not overdo it! 1-2 per paragraph is plenty!
